Soft Launch of the Jordan Museum

 

In honour of  His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein’s birthday, and in the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Jordan Museum, His Excellency the Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah Al Nsour  announced on Thursday January 31st, 2013 the soft launch of the Jordan Museum.

The Museum is scheduled to be officially inaugurated this summer by His Majesty the King and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.

In her welcoming speech, HRH Princess Sumaya thanked the Japanese government and the various supporters for their invaluable contribution to this national institution.  HRH presented the unique historical and cultural attributes of Jordan that are showcased throughout the Museum.

"We are committed to telling a story that is both compelling and instructive –one that is very clearly unfinished, and that places the visitor in the most recently written chapter," said the Princess.

Upon completing Her speech, HRH invited the distinguished guests for a tour of the various museum components, which include the display halls, laboratories, and the library. During the tour, the trustees of the display halls provided the attendees with a detailed review of the artifacts displayed which tell the “Story of Jordan”dating back to over one million years.

At the end of the event’s celebration, HRH recognized the Prime Minister, the Japanese Ambassador and Eng Ja’afar Toukan for their outstanding contributions to the establishment of the Museum.

The Jordan Museum has a built area of ten thousand square meters over a and is located near the Greater Amman Municipality Headquarters in Ras Al Ain.

Under the guidance of HRH, a specialized team of Jordanian experts has designed and developed the galleries and display areas of more than two thousand unique artifacts.

The Museum’s mission is not only to tell the story of Jordan to its visitors, but to serve as a tangible memorial to Jordan’s collective history. The museum will also act as a center of knowledge and learning and will be a valuable tool in reaching out to the local community as well as scientists, researchers and experts in the field of archeology.

The Jordan Museum has worked diligently to establish a solid network of affiliates and has recently signed several agreements with international institutions including the world-renowned Louvre in Paris.

It was announced that the Jordan Museum will open to visitors on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm leading up to the official inauguration in the summer.
